Kyuden Tonbo, the Dragonfly Castle

The new year opens with war across the Empire.
The Crab Clan have devastated the Scorpion and Crane lands in the south. Now their forces move past the mountains to complete the promise of the great Hida Kisada - to march on the capital and remove a weak Emperor. Even the deep snows of winter cannot stop the power of the Ujina magic, clearing the way for the cursed troops of the Crab.

The Lion and Crane fought to a standstill before the snows came. The Dragon forces surprised the Lion flanks, then the Lion Clan was shocked as their Clan Champion retired. No one seems to know what will happen when the fields clear again in the spring. Will the Lion Clan press their forces against the Crane and clear the way for their Crab allies, or retreat in uncertainty?

The Phoenix Clan remain silent in their quiet halls - unwilling to become engaged in the bloody battles that threaten the rest of the Empire.

Many have fled the fighting toward the calm of the Dragon Mountains. Samurai from Crab, Crane, Dragon and Scorpion find themselves drawn to hide the dark secrets they bear behind the quiet strength of the Agasha family.
Now, more then ever before, the Empire needs the wisdom of the Dragon.

Kyuden Tonbo, the Dragonfly Castle

Postby Ace » Tue Aug 23, 2016 1:47 am

Kyuden Tonbo sits in a shallow valley at the foothills of the Great Climb, a gateway to the Dragon Mountains. A tiered pagoda-topped tower in its center houses the Dragonfly daimyo and his family. All visitors to the Dragon Clan must pass through this way - and sometimes (unwelcome) visitors never make it any further into the mountains at all, turned away politely by the Dragonfly before ever meeting a true Dragon samurai.

The Dragonfly Clan as accustomed to hosting the guests of the Dragon Clan - sometimes for long periods. The rooms for visitors are well decorated with artwork from all over the Empire. But the rest of the castle is quite humble by samurai standards.

In this time of war the Dragonfly clan samurai are alert for threats of military action, but so far the Lion forces have not crossed the river to threaten their lands. For those samurai or peasants who make it to the peace of the Dragonfly lands, there hospitality offered without question. Travellers are given respite in the town and samurai hosted in the castle for as long as they please.

Those with appointments in Dragon lands are permitted to move on into the mountains when word of their permission is received from the proper Dragon channels.

For those without contacts in Dragon lands - ronin and clan samurai travelling without papers - the Tonbo samurai politely host for days, weeks or months on end. Turning away someone in need would be against their very nature - but also allowing an unwelcome traveller into Dragon lands would be an insult to their duty to the Dragon.

Anyone who is NOT a Dragon samurai or travelling in the company of a Dragon samurai MUST stop at Kyuden Tonbo.
Once here, please seek permission from the GMs before moving a character away from this region.

Dragon samurai - we would appreciate it if you put in a comment here, but you may move through without hassle.
