Winter Court 1120 - Shiro sano Kakita – Shrine to Kakita

Postby Ace » Sat May 26, 2012 6:36 am

The shrine Seido Kakita is a fair sized building, lying at counterpoint between the two larger structures of the castle and the Academy. This is easily one of the most opulent shrines in the Empire, and certainly one of the busiest. Even in deep winter, the shrine is bereft of visitors only at night. Visitors include duellists, artisans and aspiring artisans from across the Empire, although this winter it sees only mostly Crane visitors due to the early snow. The shrine is tended by its own sect of monks. The shrine itself is dedicated to Kakita and his first two children, twins who shared the soul of the Crane Thunder. Within the building there are also smaller shrines dedicated to more recent Kakita ancestors.

Having paying his respects to the Emperor and the various Crane lords in the great hall, Akodo Kotaro arrives at the shrine to greet and shown proper deference to the ancestors and kami of this place.

After a subdued conversation with a monk, questioning if there were particular rituals or forms to be observed, he moves to one of the altars. Kneeling, Kotaro lights some incense, says a quiet prayer and sits meditatively for a time.

As Kotaro meditates, a man enters the pagoda.

Dressed in a simple coat of straw and a nice hat, the man waits for a moment before speaking.

'Odd to see a Lion paying homage to the greatest rival that the Matsu family has ever known!'

He studies Kotaro's features for a moment

'Akodo by your features, I'd wager!'

He smiles,

'Have you learned anything from your meditation here?'

Akodo Kotaro opens his eyes and looks at the newcomer and shakes his head, "If only truths were that easy to come by!"

"You are correct, I am an Akodo. Kotaro is my personal name. I had hoped to show my respects and to see if there were lessons to be learned at the foot of this great hero of the empire."

He frowns in thought for a second, "If my presence is a disturbance, I will be happy to leave."

'No, no, no! You are as welcome as I here! As should all men seeking wisdom!'

He ponders for a moment.

'At least until they realise an important truth.'

Kotaro nods, and then narrows his eyes a little.

"Which truth is that?"

'That is different for each man, I believe.'

'But for me it was and is that life is for living, not for being tied down with life's problems.'

The man smiles. 'Well I will leave you to your silent prayer Akodo-san. May you find an answer worth your time.'

The man whimsically turns and strides away

Akodo Kotaro watches him walk away with a mildly quizzical look on his face and then returns to his contemplation.

After a while, Kotaro stands and leaves the shrine, being careful not to disturb any one else.
